Puerto Rico Mission Trips 2022

The next Puerto Rico mission trip is scheduled for October 29–November 5, with a second mission December 3–10. Signups for both are open NOW! Fundraising and planning have begun. If you plan to serve, please contact Marilyn Galano for the October mission and Catherine Watson for the December mission right away. For anyone needing more information, please contact either of us as well as any of those who have served previously. The sooner the teams are set, the sooner we can search for the best airfare and get details on the final costs per worker.

In previous years, the cost to serve was about $1,000 per worker, including airfare, camp room and board and ground transportation. We are fundraising to offset the cost to the individual; however, there will be some out-of-pocket expense for each worker. Work on the island is overseen by construction professionals and ranges from light to strenuous — sometimes in the same day. Some tasks require a high level of skill, others much less, but all require reasonably good health, a loving and caring heart, and a willingness to help those less fortunate. Oh, and a tolerance for heat and humidity and getting dirty. Electricity in the camps is unreliable so, sorry — no CPAP machines, hair dryers or curling irons. There may or may not be hot water in the showers, but you won’t even care. There is a possibility, with more info to come, of the ReHace Program allowing us to serve in other areas such as food distribution, medical clinics, schools, etc. This is not confirmed but as soon as it is, we will share that information.

Participants wishing to raise their construction skill levels are encouraged to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity prior to serving with the mission team. Individuals can choose their days to serve on local builds and training and tools are provided onsite. Info at https://santafehabitat.org/volunteer/.

Our big missions event in support of our work in Puerto Rico and in Mora County will be held on Saturday, August 20 at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Tickets are $25 each ($10 for children 12 and under), or $150 for a table for six, and can be purchased from Barbara Sharpe at  besharpe14@gmail.com  or Marilyn Galano at  bmgalano@gmail.com or through the church office.
The focus is less on fundraising this year and more on fellowship and celebration of connecting with our brothers and sisters nearby and around the globe.

Join us for food, music, prizes and a fun time. Bring your family, neighbors and friends; we’d like to make this a community event.
